ABOUT ME

"Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind.

The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious,to have one idea spark another."

-- Marva Collins

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree:

I graduated with my Bachelor's of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2008 from Texas A&M University of Commerce.  After graduation, I became certified to teach Early Childhood through 4th grade.

Master's Degree:

I received my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Lamar University-Beaumont in 2013. Upon graduating, I obtained my K-12 Principal Certification; as well as Instructional Leadership Development Certification.

Background:

The 2016-2017 school year will be my eighth year in education. This is my second year to serve as the Dean of Students at Lakeview Elementary, Mabank ISD.  I previously served in Yantis ISD, Terrell ISD and Palestine ISD.  I taught for five years at the elementary level before becoming an administrator.

FAMILY

I have been married to my beautiful wife, Candace, for seven years.  Candace serves as the Elementary Counselor for Rains Elementary.  We have two daughters, Emory who is 4 and Bristol who is 2.  We enjoy spending quality family time together playing, shopping, and serving in our church.  Candace and I have been on several mission trips; as we love to follow our passion and calling to serve others.

PHILOSOPHY

I genuinely enjoy and greatly benefit from being in education. Helping students to understand the value and importance of education always leads to an improved personal development as an educator.  I strive to make this concept known to my colleagues so that they in turn can become better educators.  When students have learned to value education, educators can have a great sense that their efforts have paid off. I have the view that every community has a unique group of learners that varies not only in abilities, but also in learning styles.  The responsibility of an educator is to give children the tools with which to enhance their individual and unique knowledge. To accomplish this ambition, teachers need to teach to the needs of the students so that all of the learners feel capable and successful while also coming to an understanding that learning is relevant to life.   Establishing the education that is necessary for a successful life helps children become caring and active members of society. I believe that challenging students allows for them to become self learners and to continuously build on knowledge and key concepts.
